Wise Ceremony

On June 1st, Hamna Maqbool, Alexa Bautista, and Zhiwei Fan presented proposals to improve the quality of life of their respective communities to a select group of panelists from the Working in Support of Education (WISE) organization. Hamna won 1st prize and a scholarship for her project, Break The Cycle: Promoting Awareness about Teen Dating Abuse. Alexa and Zhiwei were recognized for their project, Instead of Running From the Sun, Protect Your Skin and Have Fun.

Winter Arts Showcase

On January 11, 2024, Tele held its Winter Arts Showcase, where student artwork from Digital Photography and 3D Design courses. Students from Tele’s Dance classes also showcased their dances on stage in an exciting show!

Morgan Book Project

n partnership with the Morgan Library, all of our 9th grade students write, illustrate, and bind their own books, in the style of Medieval Illuminated Manuscripts. Between units on ancient texts like The Odyssey, Sundiata, The Monkey King, and The Arabian Nights, students tell their own hero’s journey in the books they create. The students make their own paint by grinding traditional pigment sources such as malachite, saffron, and insects. They complete their illustrations with 22-karat gold leaf. Some of our students were honored at the Morgan Book Project Ceremony on May 12, 2023. The work of the following students will be displayed in the library until August 20, 2023: Alvi Mahtab, Qilin Guo, and Daniela Apanco.

ALUMNI DAY 2023

Thank you for participating in this year's Alumni Day. We enjoyed hearing the experiences of HSTAT Alumni as they shared their personal stories about adjusting to life after High School. SnowBall Dance

The SGO held the SnowBall Dance on January 20th, 2023.  The Dance was completely sold out, and staff and students had a great time dancing the night away!

Winter Arts Showcase

Students, families and staff were truly impressed by HSTAT artists and dancers in our annual Winter Arts festival on January 19, 2023.  Organized by Ms. Verteramo, dance teacher, Ms. Johnson, and art teacher, Ms. Giurdanella, students performed dances choreographed by Ms. Johnson and by students, and displayed the art they created.

Gift of Giving 2022

The Gift of Giving Toy Drive is a longstanding tradition in the HSTAT Community.  Students collect toys, wrap them, organize them, and distribute them to needy Brooklyn youngsters in local elementary schools, and children's hospitals.  Students from various student clubs and groups participate each year, and do a wonderful job hosting our young  guests at the event held at the Dyker Heights Golf Course and Catering Hall.  Over 150 guests are treated to lunch, a toy, and a visit with Santa; with HSTAT students working to make the event a success each year.

Physics Trip to Intrepid

Physics students enjoyed a field trip to the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum. Students explored the former aircraft carrier USS Intrepid. While on board, they had the opportunity to tour the Flight Deck and learn about different military aircraft. They also toured the Hangar Deck where they learned about the Intrepid's role in World War 2 and took advantage of the numerous interactive exhibits aboard the ship. In addition, the students were able to learn about the many navigational instruments needed to operate such a large vessel. The students also had the opportunity to walk through the decommissioned Navy submarine USS Growler. Here they learned about the conditions sailors experienced while living beneath the ocean's surface for months at a time aboard a nuclear armed submarine. In addition, the students learned about NASA's space shuttle program while visiting the Space Shuttle Pavilion which is now home to the retired space shuttle Enterprise.

Halloween Window Painting 2022

Self Care Fair (June 6, 2022)

On Monday June 6, 2022 the HSTAT Guidance Department held our first Self-Care Fair. Students and staff learned about the importance of self care and participated in many fun activities, including candle-making, skincare, and martial arts. Congratulations to our three students who won a self care package, an Instax Polaroid camera, and a Nintendo Switch from the fair's raffle!

HSTAT Track (June 1, 2022)

Our very own track team just finished the season and we placed second in all of Brooklyn. We also have our first State qualifier in all of Telecom history. Juan Corona will be representing PSAL in the Pentathlon this upcoming weekend.

2022 Spring Arts Showcase (May 12, 2022)

The 2022 Spring Arts Showcase celebrated the hard work of HSTAT's Dance, Music, and Art Classes. The show began with a gallery walk of all the portraits, collages, and student artworks they worked on all semester. Families, friends and staff, then watched musical performances showcasing music club, piano, and vocals.  To end the night the dance classes performed over 20 dances featuring hip hop, contemporary, jazz and modern dance. Overall the night strengthened our community and highlighted the hard work of our HSTAT Arts Students.

AP Biology Research Presentation (May 13, 2022)

This year, our AP Biology classes have been working on a yearlong research project, analyzing how the life cycle of mealworms is affected by the consumption of styrofoam. We were funded this year by the NY Academy of Sciences Scientist in Residence (SiR) program, and a group of students will present our research to SiR scientists from across the city. These students chose to make a video of this presentation instead of presenting live, and they worked really hard with me to analyze our data, write a script and other materials for the video, record it all, and narrate it, all while also preparing for our AP exam this week!

Yankees Game (April 28th 2022)

On Thursday April 28th, 50 seniors attended the Yankees vs. Orioles game at Yankee stadium! We had a lot of fun with Yankee fans in the bleacher section, enjoyed the sunny day, and ate our way through a lot of buckets of fries! Some even caught some stray baseballs while the players were warming up!

Trigonometry Project (April 7, 2022)

History: The clinometer is a tool used by plumbers, miners, sailors and many others to measure angles of elevation. The clinometer was invented in 1989 and is still used today to measure the heights of objects that difficult to measure.

Purpose: In this trigonometry project, students constructed clinometers using protractors, straws, paper clips, a small weighted object and string. They worked in pairs to indirectly measure the heights of tall objects in the auditorium such as the balcony, windows, and projector using trigonometry.
